CABAZON

Hauntana 001, features the work "CABAZON" by LA-based artist Daniel Newman.

CABAZON, a micro-cassette audio release focuses on the nexus between the surreal, sublime & psychic in the 1985 film Pee Wee’s Big Adventure which starred the late Paul Reubens as the character Pee Wee.

In the film, the fictional character Large Marge appears as an apparition to Pee Wee on January 11, 1984, the 10th anniversary of her death.

Newman’s work "CABAZON" undertaken on the fiftieth anniversary of her death on January 11, 2024, sees the artist go on-site to the location of Large Marge's appearance from the film, in Cabazon, California.

While on-site Newman utilized contact microphones, CB radios and field audio recordings, as source material to create a processed sonic artifact seeking to distill the spirit and essence of Large Marge.
